Over 2,000 people tasted around thirty different wines from the nine wineries participating in the fifth edition of the festival, held in Porreres last Saturday<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The itinerant Vi de la Terra festival brought together more than 2,000 attendees. They all came together for a high-quality local product such as Mallorcan wine. The event, held at the courtyard of the Oratori of Sant Felip Neri, was, once again, a success in regard to attendance from its opening at six in the evening until past two in the morning. The festival attracted young consumers with a proposal that combined the richness and variety of our wines with music, local gastronomy and food trucks, as well as games, storytelling, and workshops for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nine participating wineries – Mesquida Mora, Can Feliu, Finca Ses Talaioles, Bodega Olor\u00f3n, Vidal Serra, Blanca Terra, Vino de la Isla, Jaume de Puntir\u00f3, and Son Juliana<\/strong> – had the opportunity to connect with an audience interested in discovering the products made from our vineyards and grapes. It’s worth noting that each edition of the RWF features different wines to showcase the products of the nearly eighty wineries that are part of Vi de la Terra Mallorca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rafel Vidal from Vidal Serra winery in Santa Eug\u00e8nia explains, \u201cWe are quite young, we’ve been in the market for four years and being here is very important because it allows us to introduce our products to the younger crowd.\u201d This Saturday, B\u00e0rbara Mesquida from Mesquida Mora winery played a home game. \u201cFor two years now, Vi de la Terra has made this proposal, and this time being in Porreres, we had to be here. We are from here, from the land, we are organic, biodynamic, we couldn\u2019t miss such a wonderful setting. It\u2019s important to take wine out of the context of a drink surrounded by much liturgy and bring it closer to people as a moment of fun and relaxation. Wine should try to gain a bit of space from other drinks that have a much easier narrative and are gaining more consumption space. It is a drink tied to tradition, landscape, our land, and therefore, it is a drink to enjoy, to discover native varieties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inaugural Toast<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this edition, the Porreres City Council collaborated with the festival. The mayor, Xisca Mora, and some council members were present at the toast that kicked off the festival. Also in attendance were the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, Joan Simonet; the Councilor of Local Promotion and Local Development of the Consell de Mallorca, Pilar Amate; the Mayor of Costitx, Antoni Salas; Tiffany Blackman, representing the DO Oli de Mallorca; the president and vice president of Vi de la Terra Mallorca, Magdalena Mesquida and Conxa Rosillo, respectively, along with the entity\u2019s manager, Marina Vera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Joan Simonet stated, \u201cMallorcan wines are getting better every day, there is more diversification, more wineries, and that is a good sign. What we are missing is to sell them, to reach the public. While it is often said that tourists or foreign residents buy them, these actions aimed primarily at the Mallorcan public of all ages are essential for people to know them, taste them, and realize that behind these glasses of wine, there is work, there are vineyards that maintain our landscape, our territory. Therefore, fostering this connection between winery and consumer is vital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president of Vi de la Terra Mallorca, Magdalena Mesquida, expressed her satisfaction with the festival’s warm reception, recalling the event\u2019s original objective: \u201cto promote responsible consumption among young people and to introduce them firsthand to the wines made in Mallorca. The truth is, it has been a success: combining the island\u2019s wines with good music and activities for the whole family surrounding the world of wine. It is a very complete event. At Vi de la Terra Mallorca, we have more producing wineries and better quality each year. We couldn\u2019t be happier to showcase them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soundtrack for this Ra\u00efm Wine Fest was provided by Monkey Doo, Cacao, and Aina Losange. Attendees enjoyed offerings from two Porreres bakeries: Forn i Pastisseria Benet Bar\u00f3n and Llucia De Tot Gust, in addition to the varied selections from food trucks La Porota, Love Croquet, and Bunyols de na Turi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vi de la Terra Mallorca is already working on new editions of the RWF, which will be held in Portocolom, in July; in Sant Lloren\u00e7, in August; and in Pollen\u00e7a, in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
