Sommelier Marta Clot, special guest of this eighth edition, highlights “the enormous wealth represented by the traditional varieties, which give character and uniqueness to Mallorcan wines”
The itinerant Vi de la Terra Mallorca festival brought together once again, on Saturday 28 of September, in Cala de Sant Vicenç, Pollença, all the ingredients that have made it a great showcase for the wines produced in Mallorca. This is confirmed by the 4,000 people who tasted the wines of the wineries participating in this eighth edition, with more than 40 references including whites, rosés and reds. A wide offer in which the commitment to local varieties, more adapted to the climatic conditions we live in and that have marked this year’s harvest, less abundant than in previous years, is increasingly evident.
For Marta Clot, sommelier and wine influencer with more than 600,000 followers in social networks, it has been the first contact with the Raïm Wine Fest, which for three years has been traveling through different municipalities of Mallorca. In Pollença, she had the opportunity to talk with the heads of the wineries and taste the wines produced with the IGP Vi de la Terra Mallorca. “I have very good memories of this festival, I have learned a lot about Mallorcan wines, and I am eager to share them. I would especially highlight these fantastic traditional varieties that you have: gorgollassa, manto negro, callet, malvasía, giró ros, prensal… it is this enormous richness that makes Mallorcan wines significant. These varieties provide character, uniqueness and ultimately create identity. In addition, they produce very fine, very elegant wines, which is the trend towards which the world of wine is moving right now. The festival is also a good place to make them known. I really liked to see how people enjoy a festive moment, create memories with a glass of wine in their hands, and taste the wines of their own land. Wine is a drink to share, to enjoy, to have a good time and the Raïm is a clear example”.
The names of this edition have been the wineries of Pollença Can Xanet, Dunord Vitícola, Can Axartell, Bodegas Can Vidalet and Vinyes Mortitx, together with other wineries of Mallorca: Butxet, Karretània, Tianna Negre, Vinyes-celler Sebastià Pastor, Castell Miquel, Ses Roques, Binigrau and Bodega Ava Vino. Their wines have given color to more than 4,000 glasses, which have been tasted by a mostly young and family audience. They have also been able to enjoy live music with Esburbat DJ, the stage name of the winemaker Albert Dols, who has been in charge of starting the musical performances. A stage that would also host, throughout the evening and until one o’clock in the morning, the groups Saus Rumba, Cacao, Pep Tronik and Southnormales.
This Ram Wine Fest has been the earliest of all, as it opened its doors at 1 P.M., once the rain of the early hours of the day had spread. The space for the festival, right in front of the beach of Cala Molins, was filling up with families to participate in the activities organized in the children’s area. A novelty to highlight is the presence of the group Embaldufats that, with their spinning tops of all sizes, captivated young and old. Everybody was able to regain strength thanks to the gastronomic offer of foodtrucks and local bakeries and establishments, with the special participation of the social entity PRODIS, dedicated to helping people with disabilities.
The eighth edition of the Raïm Wine Fest has been supported by the City Council of Pollença and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment of the Government of the Balearic Islands.
